THE FAMILY of a young Irish woman killed in Inveraray 70 years ago this week unveiled a memorial for her in the Royal Burgh on the anniversary of her death.
The Canning Family,from County Donegal,unveiled a plaque in the woodlands of Inveraray on Saturday in tribute to their aunt Gertrude Canning,whose murder still remains a mystery.
Gertrude,who served with the Women’s Royal Naval Services in Inveraray,was 20-years-old when she was found dead in the woodlands behind Loch Fyne;she had been shot four times.
