Two earthquakes hit Rest and Be Thankful area

On Sunday, March 4 2012, two earthquakes 15 hours apart were felt in the hills above the A83 and Rest and Be Thankful.

The first occurred at 8.34am on March 4 2012 and registered as a magnitude  1.8 on the Richter scale, at a depth of 2 km.

The second happened at 11.23pm in a  similar location and registered as 2.8 at a depth of 3km.

Another tremor was felt on Wednesday February 29, only four days previously. All three quakes were felt in Arrochar.

Nine separate quakes have been felt on Islay in the last month ranging in magnitude from 0.9 to 2.8 in the Richter scale.
